Job Description

Job Details:

Family Law Attorney - Be the steady hand in life’s toughest moments

Raleigh-Durham, NC

Own the case. Protect the family. Make the hard days easier.

You’ll step into a practice that’s spent decades standing between North Carolina families and the worst days of their lives – and you’ll be the one they trust at the table, in the conference room, and in the courtroom.

This is for the seasoned family law litigator who loves the strategy, lives for the hearing, and still leads with compassion.

You’ll manage your own docket end-to-end, drive case strategy, and be the voice clients lean on when everything is on the line.

If you’ve built your career in North Carolina family law and want your next move to actually matter, we want to talk to you.

What You'll Work On

You’ll focus exclusively on core North Carolina family law matters across the greater Raleigh area:

  • Contested and uncontested divorce matters
  • Equitable distribution and complex property division
  • Child custody and visitation disputes
  • Child support establishment and modification
  • Alimony and spousal support claims
  • Domestic violence and protective order cases
  • Adoption and guardianship matters
  • Related mediations, settlement conferences, and trials

Every file on your desk will involve real people, real risk, and real impact.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Managing a full caseload of family law matters from intake through final resolution
  • Representing clients in court hearings, mediations, settlement conferences, and trials
  • Developing and executing case strategy tailored to client goals
  • Drafting pleadings, motions, separation agreements, custody agreements, and other legal documents
  • Conducting legal research to support persuasive written and oral advocacy
  • Presenting clear, strategic arguments in court with a strong litigation presence
  • Advising clients with practical, candid guidance throughout the litigation process
  • Maintaining proactive, responsive communication and delivering exceptional client service
  • Negotiating settlements that balance legal realities with family dynamics
  • Collaborating with attorneys and legal support staff to drive favorable outcomes
  • Staying current on North Carolina family law developments and best practices

What We're Looking For

  • J.D. and active license in good standing with the North Carolina State Bar
  • 5+ years of dedicated family law experience
  • Proven courtroom presence and significant litigation experience
  • Hands-on experience with divorce, equitable distribution, custody, child support, alimony, and domestic violence matters
  • Excellent legal writing skills for motions, pleadings, and agreements
  • Strong negotiation skills and a steady demeanor under pressure
  • Exceptional interpersonal and client communication skills
  • Ability to independently manage a busy caseload while working well within a team

The Experience That Will Really Get Our Attention

You’re the attorney other lawyers call when a family law case turns high-conflict and high-stakes. You know the North Carolina courts, you’re comfortable trying cases, and you can pivot from aggressive advocacy to practical compromise when it serves your client.

You bring a track record of moving tough divorces, custody battles, and support disputes to resolution while keeping clients informed, prepared, and grounded throughout the process.

High-signal experience: divorce litigation • equitable distribution • custody trials • child support hearings • alimony disputes • domestic violence protective orders • separation agreements • custody agreements • mediations • North Carolina family law practice

Why This Opportunity?

You’re not building a family law practice from scratch – you’re stepping into a well-established North Carolina practice with a long-standing reputation for strong advocacy and client care.

You’ll have the autonomy to run your cases like a seasoned litigator, with support from experienced attorneys and staff who know how to move matters forward.

On top of meaningful work, you’ll see it recognized with a competitive base plus bonus structure, along with healthcare benefits, a retirement program with company match, paid malpractice insurance, paid CLE, paid Bar dues, and PTO.

Important Requirements

Active license and good standing with the North Carolina State Bar required.

Minimum 5 years of family law experience required.

Interested?

If you’re a North Carolina family law litigator ready to own your cases and make a direct impact for families in the Raleigh area, let’s connect in confidence.
