Job Description

Lower School Teacher

Lower School Teacher

Small Classes. Big Support. Work That Changes Lives.

Full-Time | Groves Academy | St. Louis Park, Minnesota

Are you still waiting to find a school where you can teach the way you know students deserve to be taught?

This could be that opportunity.

Groves Academy is seeking an experienced, collaborative, and deeply committed Lower School Teacher to join our team. You will work with small classes of approximately 6–10 students , each of whom brings unique strengths, challenges, interests, and tremendous potential.

Our students are bright, capable learners who may experience dyslexia, ADHD, or other learning differences. They do not need someone to lower expectations. They need a skilled teacher who can understand how they learn, adapt instruction thoughtfully, and help them rediscover confidence in themselves.

At Groves, teaching is personal, evidence-based, and genuinely transformative.

Why Teachers Choose Groves

Teaching is demanding work. You should not have to do it alone.

At Groves Academy, you will be supported by:

  • Small class sizes that allow you to truly know your students
  • A collaborative team of educators and specialists
  • A rich, evidence-based curriculum
  • Ongoing professional learning and coaching
  • Training and support in structured literacy approaches
  • Students who benefit enormously from teachers willing to see beyond a diagnosis or test score
  • A mission-centered community committed to helping every student experience confidence, success, and purpose

You will have the opportunity to teach deeply, build meaningful relationships, and see the direct impact of your work.

What You Will Do

As a Lower School Teacher, you will create an engaging, structured, and supportive classroom where students can grow academically, socially, and emotionally.

Your work will include:

  • Delivering individualized, research-based instruction focused on measurable student growth
  • Planning and facilitating balanced, engaging learning experiences
  • Using structured literacy approaches, including Orton-Gillingham and Wilson Language Programs
  • Building strong relationships with students and understanding their individual learning profiles
  • Differentiating instruction based on student strengths, interests, and needs
  • Using evidence and student data to guide instructional decisions
  • Encouraging creativity, curiosity, independence, and critical thinking
  • Creating a classroom culture in which students feel respected, challenged, and safe taking academic risks
  • Communicating regularly and thoughtfully with families
  • Collaborating with colleagues, specialists, and school leaders
  • Participating in professional development and contributing to the broader Groves community

You May Be a Great Fit If You…

  • Believe every student is capable of meaningful growth
  • Know that behavior is often communication, not simply defiance
  • Can adjust your approach without lowering the standard
  • Value collaboration and do not believe teaching should be an individual survival sport
  • Bring creativity, patience, sound judgment, and a healthy sense of humor to your work
  • Communicate directly and compassionately with students, families, and colleagues
  • Are energized by helping students who may have stopped believing they are good at school
  • Want to work in a community where specialized instruction is the foundation, not an afterthought

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in education or a related field
  • Teaching experience and a demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with students
  • Ability to design and adapt instruction for a range of learning needs
  • Strong written, verbal, organizational, and technology skills

Preferred:

  • Experience teaching students with learning disabilities, dyslexia, or ADHD
  • Training in Orton-Gillingham or Wilson Language Programs
  • Special education licensure or training
  • Experience using data and student learning profiles to guide instruction

Do not count yourself out simply because you do not meet every preferred qualification. We are interested in talented educators who are curious, adaptable, committed to learning, and passionate about helping students thrive.
