Project Description The project involves the USPTO's International Data Exchange initiative focusing on the development and maintenance of biosequence systems. These systems, including the SLIC system, support filing, validation, and searching of biosequence listings, playing a crucial role in the patent examination and data exchange processes. Position Description Our GD/SLIC team is actively seeking a Senior DevSecOps Cloud Engineer with a strong emphasis on leveraging GitLab and Terraform to manage and deploy infrastructure. This vital role requires comprehensive expertise in cloud technologies, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CI/CD principles, and a strong foundation in AWS. The ideal candidate will demonstrate advanced skills in designing and implementing GitLab configurations, including runners, executors, and workflows through Terraform, to enhance our software development and security operations processes. Responsibilities

• GitLab Terraform Provisioning: Lead the setup, management, and optimization of GitLab environments using the GitLab Terraform provider, ensuring reproducibility and scalability.
• Runner & Executor Provisioning: Spearhead the provisioning and management of GitLab runners using Terraform, focusing on optimizing CI/CD execution times and resource efficiency.
• AWS Integration: Facilitate the integration of AWS resources with GitLab, aiming for seamless deployments, scalability, and cost-efficiency without sacrificing performance.
• Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Advocate for and lead IaC initiatives using Terraform, promoting automation and consistency in infrastructure deployments.
• CI/CD & GitLab Pipelines: Develop, optimize, and maintain GitLab pipelines to streamline development workflows and automate deployment processes.
• Docker & Docker Machine Management: Oversee Docker images and containers, ensuring they meet application requirements and are optimized for performance.
• Auto-scaling Mastery: Refine auto-scaling rules and policies to maintain responsive and cost-effective applications.
• Team Collaboration: Work closely with development teams to ensure a seamless integration between development and operations, facilitating smooth deployment cycles.
• Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation outlining best practices, configurations, and workflows for GitLab provisioning and management with Terraform.

Requirements

• GitLab Mastery: Deep understanding and hands-on experience with the GitLab Terraform provider, including its comprehensive functionalities.
• Technical Proficiency: Expertise in the full spectrum of GitLab components, encompassing runner and executor setups to complex workflow configurations.
• Cloud Expertise: Strong proficiency with AWS services and the integration of these services with GitLab environments.
• Terraform Expertise: Demonstrated experience with Terraform, particularly in applying Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles to infrastructure deployments.
• CI/CD Understanding: Solid grasp of CI/CD methodologies, especially within the GitLab ecosystem, to enhance development workflows.
• Containerization Skills: Proficiency in Docker and Docker Machine, including best practices for lifecycle management.
• Scaling Knowledge: Knowledge of auto-scaling practices and policies to ensure responsive and cost-effective application performance.
